An “I will be attending” DP is a flyer with a space for a guest’s photo and name. When guests post theirs on WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook, they tell their own friends about your event, and a friend’s recommendation is worth far more than an ad. This guide shows you how to plan, design and share one, even if you have never used design software.
What you need before you start
- An event name, date, time and venue.
- A flyer image saved as JPG or PNG, at least 1080 pixels wide.
- A short message you want guests to post with their DP.
- About ten minutes.
Step 1: Design the flyer with a photo space
Ask your designer for a flyer with an empty space where a guest’s photo will go, and a clear spot for the name. The photo space should be big enough to show a face clearly, usually at least a quarter of the flyer’s width. Put the words “I will be attending” in large, easy-to-read letters, followed by the event name, date and place.
Keep important words away from the photo space and the name space, because a guest’s picture will cover that area. If you design the flyer yourself, use two fonts at most and make sure the text stands out from the background.
Step 2: Choose the shape of the photo
A circle works well for faces and feels friendly. A rounded card or a box looks more formal, which suits conferences and corporate events. Whatever you choose, use the same shape for every guest so all the DPs look consistent and professional.
Step 3: Set up your project in MakeDP
- Open MakeDP and create a free account, then choose Create project.
- Type the event name and your organisation’s name.
- Upload your flyer.
- Pick a frame style and drag it onto the empty photo space. Use the zoom slider to make it fit.
- Drag the name to where it should appear, then choose a font, size and colour that is easy to read.
- Write the message guests will post, for example: “I will be at our annual conference! Make yours here:”. Your link is added for you.
Step 4: Test it yourself
Open your project link and make your own DP. Try a very long name to make sure it still fits, and try a photo taken from far away to see how it looks inside the frame. If anything looks off, edit the project and save the changes. Guests always see the latest version.
Step 5: Share the link
Send the link where your guests already are. Post it in your WhatsApp groups, add it to your registration confirmation message, put it in your Instagram bio or story, and include it in reminder emails. Ask your first few registered guests to make their DPs and share them, because early shares encourage others to follow.
Common mistakes to avoid
- A photo space that is too small. Faces become hard to recognise.
- Low-quality flyers. A blurry flyer gives blurry DPs, so start with a sharp image.
- Text too close to the edges. Social apps can crop images, so leave a margin.
- No call to action. Tell guests what to do, such as “Make your DP and share it”.
Final tip
Share your own DP first. When guests see the organiser has joined in, they are more likely to do the same. After the event, thank everyone who shared, and repost a few of the best ones.
Frequently asked questions
How many guests usually make a DP?
It depends on how easy you make it and how often you remind people. Events that share the link in the registration message and send two or three reminders tend to see far more DPs than events that post it once.
Can I change the flyer after guests have started using it?
Yes. Edit your project and save the changes, and everyone who opens the link will see the new version. DPs that guests already downloaded will not change, so avoid big changes late in the campaign.
Do guests need to create an account?
No. Guests only type their name, add a photo and download their DP. Only the organiser needs an account, to manage the project.
